Jean Helen Barnard Staebler, age 77 of Pinckney, Michigan died Sunday morning, October 12, 2008 at her residence.
She was born June 16, 1931 in Ann Arbor, Michigan; the daughter of Frank and Helen (Walley) Barnard. Jean married Charles "Bud" Staebler on July 14, 1951 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and he survives.
Jean is also survived by her daughter, Claire (Kevin) Donovan and daughter-in-law, April Staebler; five grandchildren, Renelle, Michael, Denise, Garrett, Spenser and one great grandchild, Jace. Jean was preceded in death by her son, David.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Shelters Funeral Home 250 N Mill St. Pinckney, Michigan. Family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Wednesday, October 15 and 10 AM until time of service on Thursday. Donations can be made to the family in lieu of flowers.

Timothy E. Martin, 54 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Tuesday afternoon, September 23, 2008 in Toledo, Ohio.
He was born November 9, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri; the son of Carter and Wilma Coker Martin. Tim married Penny Linton on November 12, 1977 in Edmore, Michigan and she survives.
He is also survived by his son, Corey, his brother, Rexford and his sister Nancy.
Tim retired from General Motors Corp. and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

John Plasha, 92 years,of Wildwood, Florida and a former long-time Pinckney, Michigan resident died Sunday evening, September 21, 2008 at Arbor Village Nursing Home in Wildwood, Florida.
He was born January 8, 1916 in Highland Park, Michigan; the son of George and Angeline Codes Plasha. John married Dorothy Tant on April 1, 1978 in Pinckney, Michigan and she preceded him in death on January 24, 1991.
John was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service and a Army Veteran of WWII, he was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Pinckney.
Funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday, September 26, 2008 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan with burial in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Family will receive friends 4-7 PM Thursday.

Linda Diane McCall, 60 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Wednesday evening September 10, 2008 from complications related to her recent diagnosis of cancer.
She was born July 3, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan; the daughter of George and Thelma Owens Tubert. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ed McCall Sr.
Linda is also survived by one son, Scott (Andrea) McCall and grandchildren, Jacob and Nathan; one daughter, Tracy (Dan Jr.) Rendell and grandchildren, Kelsey and Luke; stepchildren, Dave (Lana) McCall and grandchildren, David, Ashley, Andrea; Tom (Renee) McCall and grandchildren, Tom and Dan; Ed (Pam) McCall Jr.; she is also survived by her mother, Thelma Tubert; mother-in-law, Vivian McCall and brother and sister in-laws, Jerry and Doe McCall, Elaine Duffy and Carla McCall.
Linda would say her greatest accomplishment is the strong family that she nourished during her 60 years, smiling, strong, loving and nurturing.
Funeral service will be held 1 PM Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Shelters Funeral Home with Rev. Herb Wilson officiating.

Two days short of his 75th birthday, Robert Edgar Dolata left this earth in his sleep at his beloved home/cottage on Hi-land Lake in Hell Michigan. He was born on Sept 8, 1933 to Mathew J. and Hannah K. (Houvineu) Dolata. His beloved wife Dorothy Blevins Dolata passed on August 19, 1999. He is survived by his son, R. Daniel Dolata (Lynda) of Boise Idaho. One grandson, Dustin Daniel (Mary) Dolata of Nampa Idaho and great grandaughter Madison; Granddaughter, Dr. Danalyn E. (Brandon) Workentin of Boise, and two great grandsons, Matthew aka "Max" and Christopher; and granddaughter Darcy A.D. (David) Fonger of Nampa, Idaho, and two great grandsons, Jaden and Colten. His dog, Miss Dash, the Bassett Hound. One niece, Linda (Bob) Crump of Novi, Michigan also kept tabs on him. He has one sister, June (Gerry) Neumark of Atlanta Georgia.
"Bob" was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a staunch patriot. He then pursued a career as a teamster/truck driver for Koenig Fuel and Supply for many years. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 140 in Detroit and Hamburg Post # 1224. He also volunteered many hours of service at the VA hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Recently he became active in the Putnam Township planning and zoning commission and the election board.
In lieu of flowers, you could take a friend to vote, or out to lunch, or volunteer in your community, or make a donation to the cancer society or heart association.
Bob will be sorely missed by his "Girl friends", Miss Dash, Pam, Liz and Jeri, and Doris. As a volunteer at the VA he always had greeting or a comeback for everyone needing his "guidance',"Bobisms". He always spoke his mind, but hated good byes, so Dad this isn't good bye, just till we meet again. Love Dan and Lynda, family and friends.

Betty J. Baker, 73 years, of Lakeland, Michigan died Tuesday afternoon, September 2, 2008 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
She was born February 13, 1935 in Southfield, Michigan; the daughter of Irwin and Lauretta (Doan) Jarvis. Betty married Charles Baker on November 6, 1954 and he preceded her in death July 27, 1985.
Betty is survived by two sons, Alan (Laurie) Baker of Phoenix, Arizona, Calvin (Susan) Baker of Howell, Michigan; one daughter, Sheryl (John Jr.) Francis of Thompsonville, Michigan; nine grandchildren and three brothers, John, Thomas and James.
Funeral service will be held 2PM Friday, September 5, 2008 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan with burial in Pinckney Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1-8PM Thursday and 10AM until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.

Morgan Kathleen Carey age 16 of Pinckney Michigan departed this life on Friday afternoon, August 22, 2008 after a long struggle with brain cancer. She is survived by her parents, Dawn and Kevin, her brother Ryan and sister Meaghan, a great grandparent, grand parents, aunts and uncles and numerous cousins.
Morgan got through this struggle with firm faith and an ability to reach out and touch others even in the midst of her own suffering. She was supported during her final illness by her family, her many friends, acquaintances, and even strangers from the village of Pinckney and surrounding area. The family wishes to thank them for all they have done and is especially thankful for the care she received at Mott's Children's Hospital. A memorial service will be held 10 AM Saturday, August 30th at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 306 North Division, Ann Arbor. In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to Mott's Children's Hospital, 7th floor Pediatric Cancer Center or Arbor Hospice.

Frank "Smiley" Campbell, 81 years, of Brighton, Michigan died Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008 at his residence.
Frank was born November 17, 1926 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania; the son of George and Effie Mae (Bird) Campbell; He married Mary Clark on June 5, 1952 in Ohio and she preceded him in death on January 16, 1997.
Frank is survived by two sons, Arthur (Rebecca) Campbell of Elkhart, Indiana, James (Pam) Campbell of Brighton, MI; two daughters, Patricia (Terry) Hodges of Lake, MI, and Janet (Michael) DiCarlo of Pinckney,MI; five grandchildren.
Frank was a heavy equipment operator for Kensington Metro Park and he served with the US Army during WW II.
Funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday, August 22, 2008 at Shelters Funeral Home 250 N Mill St. Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. Mark Milatz of Shepherd Of The Lakes Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Brighton, Michigan. Family will receive friends 1-8 PM Thursday August 21 at the funeral home.

Graden is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean; two daughters, Shirley (Glenn) Stanley and Darla Miller; one son, Larry (Vickie) Kessler; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter; preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Miles in 2007.

James is also survived by three daughters, Bonita (Jim) Colvin, Leilani Dodson and Jamie Shelton; one son, James (Trish) Gebhart Jr.; six grandchildren; his sister in-law, Vickie (Clint) Ray; one niece and one nephew.
James was a retired mechanical engineer for the auto industry and a Navy veteran of the Korean War. James was also a member of many organizations including the Hale Lodge #518 F&AM, the Shriners, lifetime member of Miamisburg American Legion and the Fraternal Order Of The Eagle #3607 of Howell, Michigan.

Kenneth L. Sopha, 58 years, of Howell, Michigan died Saturday morning November 24, 2007 at his residence.
He was born June 17, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Lawrence and Virginia (Smith) Sopha. Kenneth married Barbara Reum on August 4, 1973 in Detroit, Michigan and she survives.
Kenneth is also survived by two sons, Stephen (Julie) Sopha of Minnesota and Bryan Sopha; his mother, Virginia Sopha of Weidman, Michigan and his sister, Barb (Dennis) Gardner of Fowlerville, Michigan. Ken was preceded in death by his son David, Dec. 7, 1990 and his father Lawrence, Apr. 19, 2007.
Kenneth was a supervisior for Wal-Mart of Howell, Michigan and was a Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.

Genevieve was born on Feb. 17th 1918 in Detroit Mi, the daughter of Martin and Maude (Metras) Amolsch. In her lifetime she has lived in Wayne (Westland), Iron River, and Pinckney, Mi. Genevieve married William J. Henning on Feb. 8th, 1936 and he pre-deceased her in Oct. 1993 after nearly 58 years of marriage. Also pre-deceasing her were six siblings, Eleanor, Martin, Kenneth, Richard, Delores and Daniel. She was the loving mother of Walter (deceased) of Iron River Mi, Jack (Carolyn) of Pinckney, Mi and James of Phoenix Az. Genevieve was the Grandmother of eight, Great Grandmother of eight and Great, Great Grandmother of one. She was born September 2, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan; the daughter of LeRoy and Catherine (Crumley) Heath. Mary Anne married W. Noel Cooke on September 6, 1951 in Pinckney, Michigan and he survives.
Anne is also survived by two daughters, June Taylor and Lorraine Cooke; four sons, Noel, C.Daniel, Jerry and Mark; twenty four grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren; her sister, Marie Beard and two brothers, Mike Heath and Jerry Heath.
Anne was Vice President for National Bank of Detroit, Ann Arbor branch and also Brighton branch.

She was born July 28, 1920 in Pinckney, Michigan; the daughter of Claude Henry and Mary Bridget (Lynch) Kennedy. Lois married John F. Burg on September 29, 1939 in Pinckney, Michigan and he preceded in death August 12, 2006.
Survivors include her five sons and a daughter, Karl of Pinckney, Paul (Yvonne) of Jackson, Alan (Kenneth) of Tecumseh, Gary (Jennifer) of Hamburg, Joel (Janet) of Bowling Green, Ohio and Mary (Dean) Burg of Pinckney; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; preceded in death by one son, John and two sisters, Helen VanBlaircum and Rita Howe.

She was born April 5, 1924 in Saline, Michigan; the daughter of Charles and Matilda (Boettger) Kohler. Lucille married Haskiel Brown Sr. on April 24, 1948 and he preceded in death February 29, 2004.
Lucille is survived by three daughters, Lydia (Bob) Vedder of Pinckney, Pricilla (Ben) Smith of Virginia, Mary (Brian) Sawich of New Hamshire; three sons, Haskiel (Barbara) of Ann Arbor, Donald of Pinckney, Ronald (Theresa) of Brighton; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; five sisters and two brothers; preceded in death by one sister.

He was born July 27, 1930 in Bath, Michigan; the son of Lewis and Carrie (Shepard) Ringle; Elwyn married his loving wife, Alberta Wollenhaupt over fifty years ago and she survives.
Elwyn is also survived by four sons, Lewis, Lawrence, Lane and Leslie and by his three daughters, Terri Fultz, Brenda Brooks and Sheila Center.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial reception will be held 12 noon till 4 PM on Sunday, October 21st at the American Legion Post #419 which is located at 9807 Whitewood Rd. Pinckney, Michigan.

William “Bill” D. Kenny, II, was pronounced dead at his home Sunday, September 30, 2007. His death was described as natural. Bill’s health issues finally caught up to him.
He is survived by his two children, Michael P. Kenny and Sara E. Astorga, Grandchildren, Laura and Amanda Astorga, Son in Law, George Astorga, Sister, Doris Harsant, her husband Jim Harsant, their three children, Linda, David and Steve and their children, Nieces and Nephews Maryann and Joe Detting, their sons Keith and Kevin, Gordon and Michelle McCalla, and Karen McCalla, and the Bigford Family. Proceeded by his untimely death and in loving memory of his sister Joyce McCalla and brother in law Les McCalla.
Bill was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan to parents William David Kenny “Ping” and Louise C. Kenny. Bill attended St. Thomas High School in Ann Arbor, attended some college, and went into the army before he went back to his true passion the shoe business. Where he greatly enjoyed interacting with people. Everyone who knew him had a story to tell. Eventually Bill purchased his own store the Campus Bootery where he was called the unofficial mayor of downtown Ann Arbor. He was very outspoken and active in his community. Bill was married twice and inevitably divorced twice, distance had separated the family when ex-wife Valerie and two children moved to Santa Barbara, Calif. in 1976. However the ties that he created were strong, as many know. Please come join us in remembrance and celebration of his life. On Sunday, September 23, 2007, Eleanor Marie (Smith) Clough passed away
at Medilodge of Howell where she had resided for the past four years.
Eleanor was born in Akron, Ohio on May 16, 1920 to Earl and Edna (Trout) Smith. She moved as a child to Berkley, Michigan where she graduated from Berkley High School. Eleanor worked at the Ford Motor Company in Ypsilanti, where she met the love of her life, Clyde. They married on June 13, 1944, and have resided in Pinckney since 1949. Over her lifetime Eleanor has worked for Crowley Milliners,Ford Motor Company, Pinckney Community Schools, and as an assistant manager at Saunders Confectionary. She was a life member of the Order of the
Eastern Stars (Chapter 145) and was a member of the Ladies Club Society
of the Pinckney Community Congregational United Church of
Christ. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Juanita, and her brothers Harold and Earl. She is survived by her loving husband Clyde, her daughter Linda (Bill) Singer, her granddaughter Michelle (Steven Plate) Singer, her granddaughter Susan (Gary)Thomlinson, and her great-granddaughter Natalie Eleanor Plate. Also surviving is her sister-in-law Ruth (Harold) Smith and her sisters by marriage Doris Timmons and Lois Petru, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Eleanor was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be sorely missed by all.
Visitation will be at Shelters Funeral Home at 250 N. Mill Street,
Pinckney, Michigan, on Tuesday from 6-8 pm and Wednesday from 1-4 and
6-8 pm. Order Of The Eastern Star memorial service will be held at 7 PM. The funeral will be held at Pinckney Community Congregational United Church of Christ on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 11 am.

She was born December 16, 1916 in Marshall, North Carolina; the daughter of John and Bell (Neartherton) Shelton; Viola married Woodrow Massey on April 30, 1936 in Marshall, North Carolina and he preceded her in death on October 21, 2000.
Surviviors include her son, James (Lorraine) Massey and her daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Reams all of Pinckney, MI; three grandchildren, Jerrold, Jeffery and Woody; six great grandchildren, Shelton, Karson, Reagan and J.J. Reams, Samantha and Jessica Massey.

Dr. William M. Sokol M.D., 86 years of Pinckney, Michigan died Monday afternoon, September 10, 2007 at the Chelsea Retirement Community in Chelsea, Michigan.
William was born April 1, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Michael and Olga (Schmyk) Sokol. He married Edna Beasley on November 3, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan and she preceded in death on October 4, 1999.
He is survived by two daughters, Patti Acton of Pinckney, Michigan and Keri (Gary) Hazen of San Francisco, California; two sons, Donald (Dianne) Sokol of Paw Paw, Michigan and Richard (Jackie Wolf) Sokol of Calumet, Michigan; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Dr. Sokol practiced general surgery at Grace Hospital of Detroit, MI and Huron Valley Hospital of Commerce, MI; he is also a Army Veteran of WW II.

He is survived by two sons, Daniel of Novi and Richard of Kentucky; three grandchildren; his brother, Gayle of Owosso.

He was born March 28, 1921 in Ann Arbor, Michigan; the son of Lewis and Laura (Gutekunst) Egeler. Robert married Alice Smith on September 27, 1946 in Lansing, Michigan and she survives.
Robert is also survived by a son, Edward (Jenny) Egeler of Williamston, MI and a daughter, Bonnie (Richard) Dukes of Grand Ledge, MI; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren;four brothers, Raymond, Douglas, Edwin and Erwin; one sister, May Hardy. He was preceded in death by his son, Clifford Egeler.
Robert owned and operated Pinckney Body Shop, he was a U.S. Marshall and a Livingston County Deputy. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. A Member of the Dexter American Legion and a member of Livingston Lodge #76 Free and Accepted Masons.

Larry is also survived by three daughters, Kyle (Bob) Kirkby, Megan Broat and Sarah Broat; his mother and father; five brothers, Paul (Terri) Broat, Ray (Diane) Broat, Rick (Susan) Broat, Dave (Maryanne) Broat and Dan Broat; one sister, Deb (Brett) Michaels.
Larry was the Services Manager for Thomson-Shore of Dexter, Michigan.

Paul Mitchell Horal, 84 years, of Melbourne, Florida and formerly of Detroit and Brighton, Michigan died Sunday, July 29, 2007 in Brighton.
Paul was born July 5, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Paul and Helen (Mitchell) Horal. He married Mary Ann McGee of Marquette, Michigan, who preceded him in death July 28, 2000.
Surviving are nine children, James (Kathryn) of Brighton, Thomas (Karen) of Larkspur, Colorado, Patricia (Stanley) Murphy of Melbourne, Florida, Dennis (Sharon) of Boca Raton, Florida, Daniel (Jane) of Brighton, Helen (William deceased) Smith of Battle Creek, Michigan, William (Louise) of Brighton, Jerome of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Eileen (Lawrence) Michaelson of Melbourne, Florida. He was also preceded in death by a son, John. Proud grandfather of 21 and great grandfather of 4. Also survived by a brother, Thomas Horal of Washington, Michigan and a sister Jean (Victor) Lopus of Farmington, Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.
Paul graduated from St. Mary of Redford in 1941 and the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York in 1944. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He retired in 1986 and moved to Melbourne, Florida.
Memorial mass will be held Tuesday, August 7th at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Brighton, Michigan with Rev. Fr. Jeffery Poll as celebrant. The family will greet friends Tuesday at 9:30 at the church.

He is also survived by one son, Jerry of Portage, MI; two daughters, Amanda Eicher of Illinois and Katherine Kramer of Pinckney, MI; eleven grandchildren; his mother and father of Dexter, MI; two brothers, Richard of Gregory, MI and Ronald of Dexter, MI; two sisters, Kathy Morrison of Addison, MI and Cynthia Mosley of Dexter, MI; preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Bradford.
Jerry was a manager for a plastic manufacturing company. He served with the U.S. Army Company C Second Battalion during the Vietnam War.

Carroll F. Briggs (Bond), 65, died at Stockbridge Country Manor on Friday,
June 15, 2007, following a lengthy illness. Carroll was born on April 8, 1942 in Owosso, MI, the daughter of Loy and Leta (George) Bond. She was a graduate of Pinckney High School, class of 1961.
Carroll loved to spend time with her family and had provided child-care for many youngsters. She enjoyed playing games, shopping, cooking and baking. She loved Bingo and would have her heart set on giving the prize to someone else, long before she even won! That alone, made her a winner! She was such a caring and generous person, putting other’s needs far above her own. Carroll displayed a wonderful sense of humor throughout her struggles with her health and she knew her family and friends right to the end. She politely obeyed the RULE - “Life is short so start with dessert.”
Carroll was a very loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt and friend. She is survived by her son Mark Owens of Pinckney and her daughter Joyce; brother Ronald (Linda) Bond, of Grand Rapids; sisters, Gloria (Jim) Swank, of Jackson; Bonnie Bond, of Pinckney and Nancy (Bob) Hall, of Brighton as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition she leaves behind her many friends and loving caregivers at the Stockbridge Nursing Home where she had resided for the past seven years.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Robert Briggs; her stepson, Glenn Briggs; brother Gary Bond and both of her parents. Memorial donations in her remembrance may be made to St. George Special Ministries, 803 W. Main St., Brighton, MI 48116, or designated to the family for Mark’s continued care.

Audrey was born May 11, 1931 in Brighton, Michigan; the daughter of Henry and Mildred Hyne Klekot. She married Alan J. Dinkel on June 29, 1956 in Brighton, Michigan and he survives.
Audrey was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a homemaker and always assisted her husband, Alan, with building homes and raising melons. She enjoyed gardening, mowing lawn, painting and sewing.
Audrey is also survived by two daughters, Kim (Dave) Howard and Tammy (Gary) Beal; one son, Alan Dinkel all of Howell, Michigan; four grandchildren, Chad Heckler, Brad Beal, Kitsey Beal and Ryan Howard; two sisters, Mildred (Lloyd) Drayton of Lake Montezuma, AZ and Eleanor (Lloyd) Montzingo of Seattle, WA.

Surviviors include two sons, Larry (Dee) Stoddard of Milford, Gary (Denise) Stoddard of Whitmore Lake; her daughter, Marianne (Bob) Stoliker of Plymouth; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Walter Stanley Lipinski, 85 years, of Trenton, Michigan and a former Pinckney, Michigan resident died Wednesday morning, May 2, 2007 at his residence.
He was born November 28, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Joseph and Boleslava Lipinski.
Walter was a commercial photographer. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force combat photography unit during WWII.
Walter is survived by his wife, Vivian; his daughter, Claudia (Ron) Manner; his two sons, Tom (Penny) Lipinski, Jim (Kim) Lipinski; his step children, Becky Kirchoff, Kathy (Steve) Hannah, Pam (Tom) Ferguson; seventeen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his first wife, Mary; a grand daughter, Kelly Widdick and a step daughter, Donna Walter and his two brothers.

He was born October 26, 1926 in Zurich Ontario Canada; the son of Dolph and Priscilla (Durcharm) Sopha. Lawrence married Virginia Smith on August 30, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan and she survives.
He is also survived by his son, Kenneth (Barb) Sopha of Howell, Michigan and his daughter, Bard (Dennis) Gardner of Fowlerville, Michigan; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters, Ermadine Bedard and Doreen Detrich; one brother, Philip Sopha; he was preceded in death by one grandchild, David.

She was born September 9, 1934 in South Lyon, Michigan; the daughter of Louis and Phyllis (Losey) Witt. Glenda married Clare Pettis on September 21, 1951 in Flint, Michigan and he preceded in death March 26, 1992.
Mother of Leslie (Susan) and Gary, wonderful Grandma to Adam, loving Great Grandma to Cooper, little sister to Jean (Maurice) Bohm, cherised Aunt to several nieces and nephews, good friend to many. She will be missed by all who knew her. Her little dog Tiny, too. We will miss her dry humor, knitting and crocheting skills, crafting ability and love of gardening. How appropriate she passed as the first flowers and buds of Spring are visible. She will especially miss her dear friends and neighbors, Sue and Greg Gardner, who are the true meaning of the word neighbor. She is finally at rest.

Ethel C. Stevens, 88 years, passed away Friday morning, February 23, 2007 at Chelsea Community Hospital in Chelsea, Michigan.
Ethel was born January 31, 1919 in Hamilton Square, New Jersey; the daughter of Madeleine Crozer and Harold Dennis. Ethel married William R. Stevens on December 31, 1941 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and he preceded in death April 14, 1972.
Ethel had many friends, who she cherished. She loved to play bridge and played as often as possible with several different groups. For over thirty-eight years she was a volunteer at the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop. Ethel was a Past President of the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop, Conger Alumnae Group, and Ann arbor Book and Thimble Club. She was a charter member of the Huron Portage Yacht Club and a very special member of the Portage Lake Ladies Therapeutic Association. Ethel sang in the U of M Musical Society Choral Union for many years. Ethel was "famous" for her specialty Congo Bars! Ethel has had a lifelong involvement with the University of Michigan, both as a student and as a "fan". She attended the U of M Lab School (elementary), University High School, and the U of M. She attended most U of M home games for over 50 years, attending her last one at age 86.
Ethel is survived by Denis R. Stevens (Marcia) of Highland, Michigan, Madeleine A.(Mimi) Roelof of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Alan T. Stevens of Pinckney, Michigan. She is also survived by the joys of her life: nine grandchildren(Amy, Jenni, Debbie, Steve, Jay, Rachel, Rebecca, Peter and Paul), and nine great-grandchildren(Grant, Jake, Luke, Brent, Drew, Nate, Nick, Gus and Kara).
Cremation has taken place. A tea in her honor will be held for family and friends on Monday, March 5, 2007 from 2:30 until 4:30 PM at the Ann Arbor Women's City Club. A celebration of her life will occur this simmer at her beloved Portage Lake. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association, the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop or the Chelsea Retirement Community.

William retired from the Chrysler Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Michigan; he is a Army Veteran of the Korean War; a volunteer fireman for the Unadilla Fire Department for over 40 years, he was also a very active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Pinckney, Michigan.

He was born November 11, 1920 in Pinckney, Michigan; the son of Eugene G. and Mabel E. Smith Dinkel. Gene married Fran Higgs January 10, 1977 in Florida and she survives.
He is also survived by Tamra (Frank) Samples of Pinckney, Terrie (Rob) Lyerla of Pinckney, and Dan (Val) Haines of North Carolina; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Gene was a detective for the Michigan State Police, retiring after 30 years of service, then became Director of Safety and Security for Ingham Co. Medical Center, he was also a body guard for Governor Williams. Eugene was a Navy Veteran of WWII, he was a life time member of the Hamburg VFW Post 1224, American Legion of Howell, AmVets, Livingston County Wildlife and Conservation Club, Howell Elks, Moose Lodge, Eagles, Michigan State Trooper Association and Michigan State Police Command Officers Association.

Margaret Agnes (nee Vasek) Wakeman, of Pinckney, MI, died with her family by her side Monday, November 6, 2006 at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI.
Mrs. Wakeman was born July 11, 1929 in Coal City, Illinois to James and Marion (nee Brown) Vasek. After graduating from Coal City high school, she earned her R.N. from Presbyterian St. Luke’s in Chicago. October 6, 1950 she married William Marta Wakeman. She later attended both Joliet Junior College and Olivet University, earning a BA in Education and a Masters Degree. She taught in both the Wilmington and Crete-Monee school districts. Mrs. Wakeman was a former member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church, Coal City, where four generations of her family attended. She and her late husband were members of the White Star Chapter of the Eastern Star, Braidwood, Illinois.
Mrs. Waksman’s love of travel took her to many countries and in recent years she did extensive genealogy research in her Czech, Irish and Scot heritage, as well as her late husband’s Italian heritage. She enjoyed staying in touch with her many friends in Illinois after moving to Michigan through letter writing and cards.
Surviving are her two children; Alice Roderick, of Pinckney, Michigan and Alan (Ann) Wakeman of Indianapolis, Indiana, and five grandchildren: Lauren Roderick, Alex Roderick, Lindsay (Tim) Church, Juli Wakeman and Kimberly Wakeman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister, Mary Alice Groth of Belton, TX.
A family memorial service has been planned at the First Presbyterian Church of Brighton, Michigan at 4 PM on Saturday November 25th, 2006.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the American Diabetes Association, or, the Coal City Library for furthering their genealogy collection of reference materials.

He was born on February 7, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Allie and Elsie (Ermatinger) Trudell. Bob married Valerie Burke on June 1, 1963 in Berkley, Michigan and his loving wife preceded him in death on March 21, 1999. He is also preceded in death by his brother Francis Trudell.
Bob is survived by a son, Thomas (Yvonne) Trudell of Pinckney; two daughters, Tracy (Michael) Simons of Plymouth and Taryn Trudell of Westland; and one granddaughter, Danielle Simons.
Bob was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and served in the Korean War.

He was born Frbruary 4, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Alfred V. and Mable (Rohrer) Galecki. Robert married Donna McAllister on May 28, 1999 in Toledo, Ohio and she survives.
Robert is also survived by a son, Robert M. Galecki of Milford MI. and a daughter, Nichole R. Masse of Cedar Rapids MI. and two grandchildren.
Robert was a marine veteran of the Vietnam war and recipient of the Purple Heart.
Funeral service will be held 11 AM Thursday, October 19, 2006 at the Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan. Burial will follow at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan where he will receive full military honors. Family will receive friends 1-8 PM on Wednesday.

Don Russell Cagle, 42 years, of Howell, Michigan died Tuesday evening, October 10, 2006 at his residence.
He was born May 15, 1964 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Roger D. and Victoria M. (Glover) Cagle.
Survivors include one son, Don Roger Cagle and one daughter, Betty Lyn Cagle both of Fowlerville; Mother, Victoria Cagle of Pinckney; Father, Roger (Donna) Cagle of Milan; Brother, Del (Joyce) Cagle of Whitmore Lake.
Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan. Cremation will follow service. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday, October 13 at the funeral home.

John Franklin Burg, 90 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Saturday morning, August 12, 2006 at the Foote Health System in Jackson, Michigan.
John was born April 2, 1916 in Pittsfield Township in Washtenaw County; the son of John Ashley and Mary Elizabeth (Maulbetsch) Burg. John married Lois Anna Kennedy on September 29, 1939 in Pinckney, Michigan and she survives.
John is also survived by five sons and a daughter, Karl of Pinckney, Paul (Yvonne) of Jackson, Alan (Kenneth) of Tecumseh, Gary (Jennifer) of Hamburg, Joel (Janet) of Bowling Green,OH,and Mary (Dean) Burg of Pinckney; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; John was preceded in death by one son John Claude in 1988.
Funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at the Pinckney Congregational Church with Pastor Lynn Martin officiating. Family will receive friends 6-8 PM Monday, August 14 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice, in his name.

Gregory S. Yost, 51 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Wednesday morning, August 9, 2006 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
He was born April 26, 1955 in Sistersville, West Virginia; the son of Keith and Eunice (Ritchie) Yost. Gregory married Lynn Lybrink on October 15, 1983 in Howell, Michigan and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Jesse and Casey; his mother and father; sister Sandy Groom; brother, Michael; Greg was preceded in death by his brother, Ray.
Gregory was General Manager of Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan.
Funeral service will be held 10 AM Saturday, August 12, 2006 at the Chilson Hills Church 4440 Brighton Rd. Brighton, Michigan, cremation will follow service. Family will receive friends 12-8 PM Friday at the Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan and 9 AM until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are asked to the family.

Shirley A. Brockway, 72 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Friday morning, August 4, 2006 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Shirley was born April 10, 1934 in Dearborn, Michigan; the daughter of Dwight and Florence (Neumann) Wegener. She married Glenn Brockway on January 13, 1968 in Brighton, Michigan and he preceded in death September 19, 1997.
Shirley is survived by Sharon Murnighan Sutton of Oregon, Richard and Terri Brockway of Howell Michigan, Caron Voght of Illinois, Debra Kessler of Florida, Donna Argue of Indiana and Gale Brockway of Fowlerville, Michigan; fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce Carney, Nancy Rose and Linda Logan.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial gifts are suggested to Arbor Hospice 2366 Oak Valley Dr. Ann Arbor, Michigan 48103. Shelters Funeral Home of Pinckney, Michigan is in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by her mother and father; three sisters, Evelyn, Robin and Kimberly; two brothers, David (Christina), and James; three nieces, Meadow, Hailey and Carly; her grandparents, Dorothea Roberts, Vincent and Betty Riggs, Jack and Valerie Green.
Graveside service will be held 11 AM Friday, July 28, 2006 at the Pinckney Cemetery in Pinckney, Michigan.

Survivors include three daughters, Beverly (Stephen) Coulter of Livonia, Jeanette (Dave) Westermann of Pinckney and Alice (Scott) Thornburg of Chicago; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one sister, Jane Higgins of Trenton.

Age 89, died Sunday, June 25, 2006 in Rola, Missouri. Stella was born September 12, 1916 in Chester, Pennsylvania; the daughter of Walter and Anna Kinal. She worked for Gelman Science from 1966 till 1983 retiring as their Personel Director.
Survivors include two daughters, Claudia and Harry Lybrink of Howell, Michigan and Deborah and Bruce Vanderhaagen of Pinckney, Michigan; her son, Kenneth and Joni Garr of Rolla, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jason Garr, Ida Garr and Daneen Leidy; three great grandchildren, Austin, Summer and Madelyn.
A memorial service will be held 11 AM Thursday, June 29, 2006 at the Christian House of Prayer at 9949 McGregor Rd. Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. George White and Joni Garr officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association.

Ginger was born in South Dakota; the daughter of Jesse and Clara(Johnson) Hilsabeck. She married Robert Trotter on May 23, 1957 in Indiana and he survives.
She is also survived by her sister, Lucille Sarten of Wayne, Michigan and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Peoples Church 425 Unadilla St. Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. Patrick Bonnie officiating, cremation will follow service. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 26 from 1-8 PM at the funeral home.

She was born November 28, 1911 in Lum, Michigan; the daughter of Abel and Pearl (Bush) Haines.
Clessie is survived by her children; Arlene Harding of Pinckney, Stan Reese of Manistee, Cless Greenfield of Brighton, Curren Palmer of Mason, Jerry Altenbernt of Pinckney and Steve Altenbernt of Dexter; 17 grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters; Marjorie Davis, Howard Haines, Jack Haines and Barbara Burns. Clessie was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters; Jason Haines, Floyd Haines, Harlo Haines, Jeanette Singer, Renie Schenden, Leola Sheeks, L.D. Haines and Mildred Parks.

Dr. Scovell Meyers Hopkins M.D.

Dr. Scovell Meyers Hopkins, M.D., was born July 6, 1921, died on June 8, 2006 in Howell, Michigan. He was the son of Scovell B. and Norma M. (Meyers) Hopkins of Ashland Kentucky. Dr. Hopkins graduated from Ashland High School in 1939. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1945. An Army Medical Corps veteran of WWII, he completed residency in thoracic surgery in 1948. Dr. Hopkins was board certified in General and Thoracic Surgery. In 1955 he and his family moved to Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan where he practiced thoracic surgery for 21 years. In 1976 he joined the VA in Boise,ID as a general and thoracic surgeon. From 1979 through 1988 Dr. Hopkins served as Chief of Staff at VA Hospitals in Topeka, KS, Cincinnati, OH and Erie, PA. While in Cincinnati he was Assistant Dean and Professor of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical School. Dr. Hopkins and his wife Rita moved to Independence Village of Brighton Valley in July 2004. During his years of medical practice in the Detroit area, Dr. Hopkins was Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at St. John Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital. Dr. Hopkins is survived by his wife Rita Marie (McCartney) Hopkins; four children, Maureen Emerson, Suzanne Hopkins, Dr. Steven Hopkins and Dennis Hopkins; six grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 beginning at 11 AM at Shelters Funeral Home of Pinckney, Michigan followed by a funeral service at 1 PM. The family requests that any donations be made in lieu of flowers to the Hospice of Michigan, 2090 S Main St. Ann Arbor, Michigan 48103.
