Patricia Lichwala, 64 years, of Gregory, Michigan died Tuesday afternoon, June 30, 2009 at St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital in Howell, Michigan.

Patricia was born June 25, 1945 in Wyandotte, Michigan; the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Randazzo) Passalacqua. She married Leonard Lichwala on June 28, 1968 in Wyandotte, Michigan and he survives.

She is also survived by her son, Joseph; mother, Margaret; two sisters, Rosalie Shimkus and Frances Passalacqua.

Funeral mass will be held 11 AM Friday, July 3, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church 10601 Dexter-Pinckney Rd. Pinckney, Michigan with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Family will receive friends 5-8 PM Wednesday and 5-8 PM Thursday with a Scripture service at 7:30 PM at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan and Friday, 10 AM until time of service at St. Marys.

Kimberly Rae Behee, 50 years, of Flint, Michigan died Thursday afternoon, June 11, 2009 at her residence.

She was born August 12, 1958 in Abilene, Texas; the daughter of Dale and Barbara (Connaway) Behee.

Surviviors include her mother, Barbara Preston of Howell; brother, Tim Preston of Pinckney and sister, Lyn Benefiel of Cheboygan.

Bartley Frank Davis Jr.
June 8, 2009

Bartley Frank Davis Jr., 84 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Monday morning, June 8, 2009 at his residence.

He was born April 20, 1925 in Greenville, South Carolina; teh son of Bartley and Julia Harper Davis. Frank married Eleanore "Joey" Brown Sears on October 9, 1976 in Pinckney, Michigan and she survives.

Frank is also survived by two daughters, Diane Lech and Kimberly Wright; his son Frank; step son, Michael Sears and step daughters, Belinda Bird, Barbara Cooke and Brenda Sears; numerous grandchildren.

Frank was a self employed master plumber and a Navy Veteran of WWII.

Funeral service will be 11 AM Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. Patrick Bonnie officiating. Cremation will follow service. Family will receive friends 2-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home.


 
 
Lois Jane Shaposka
June 8, 2009

Lois Jane Shaposka, 78 years, of Brighton, Michigan died Monday, June 8, 2009 at her daughters residence with her loving family at her side.

She was born April 22, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan; the daughter of Harry and Elsie (Heyn) Kosnow.

Lois is survived by one son, Thomas of Brighton; four daughters, Lori Shelton of Brighton, Lynn Shelters of Pinckney, Paula Nielsen of Brighton and Teri Pace of Pinckney; twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild; her brother, William Kosnow. Lois was preceded in death by her sisters, JoAnne Self and Carol Kosnow.

Funeral service will be 11 AM Friday, June 12 at Shelters Funeral Home 250 N Mill St. Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. Ronald Rein officiating, burial will follow at St. George Lutheran Cemetery in Brighton Michigan. Family will receive friends 12-8PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are asked to the Lois Shaposka Memorial Fund which will be used toward Motts Pediatric Infusion Area.

Albert C. Bak, 22 years, of Stockbridge, Michigan died Sunday morning, June 7, 2009.

Albert was born October 15, 1986 in Woodside, New York; the son of Scott and Annie (Hahn) Bak; Albert married Misty Martin on June 21, 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Misty and his children, Nichota and EmmyAnna; his mother and father, Sung Dong and Annie Bak.

Funeral service will be held 1PM Saturday, June 13 at Immanuel Baptist Church 3415 W M-36 Pinckney, Michigan, burial will follow in the Pinckney Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8PM Friday at the funeral Home and noon till time of service at the church.

Elizabeth (Bettie) Drury, Ann Arbor Michigan, age 83, died June 2nd, 2009. Bettie was born in Gary, Indiana the daughter of James and Clara Smith. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Don Drury and daughter, Carol Scherdt. Bettie is survived by her daughter, Jane (Dan) Steele, son-in-law, Arthur (Bud) Scherdt, granddaughters, Amy (Clint) Feldkamp and Rebecca (Tim) Seegert, grandson, Andy Steele and three great grandchildren, Maggie, Samantha and Evan. Bettie was a graduate of Ann Arbor High, Class of 1943. She sat in the window as the cashier at Schlenker Hardware from 1965 until her retirement. Bettie loved chocolate, playing cards, her friends and most of all her family. She will be deeply missed. The family will gather for a private memorial service this Saturday. James Davis Lee

James D. Lee, 81 years, of Brighton, Michigan died Monday afternoon, May 25, 2009 at St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital in Howell, Michigan.

He was born November 23, 1927 in Catawba, North Carolina; the son of Henry and Mary (Howard) Lee.

Survivors include five daughters, Pam Lee-Campbell (James) of Brighton, Mary Walters of Florida, Candice Lee of Northville, Christy Brennan (Richard) of Royal Oak, Katherine Lee of Brighton; two sons, Robert of Brighton and Jay of Livonia; nine grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Robert, Minnie Lou, Nadine and Pete. Preceded in death by his son, James D. Lee Jr. and his sister Evelyn and brother Joseph.

Jim owned Lee's Tire Market in Detroit for over 60 years and he was also a WWII veteran, serving with the Army Air Corps.

Family will receive friends 1-4 and 6-8PM Thursday, May 28 at Shelters Funeral Home 250 N Mill St. Pinckney, Michigan. Franklin J. Hurlbut

Franklin J. Hurlbut, 97 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Sunday evening, April 26, 2009 at the Veterans Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

He was born July 14, 1911 in Bendon, Michigan; the son of John and Harriet (Swan) Hurlbut. Franklin married Mary Adams on June 7, 1948 and she preceded in death November 1997.

He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Mark) Candy and Cindy (Tom) Smith; two sons, Don (Maria) Hurlbut and Neal Hurlbut; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; Franklin was preceded in death by his son, Tom.

Franklin was a retired truck driver and a Navy Veteran of WWII.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Shelters Funeral Home 250 N Mill Pinckney, Michigan. Isabelle Nash, 94 years, of Ann Arbor, Michigan died Friday morning, April 24, 2009 at Bortz Health Care of Ypsilanti, Michigan.

She was born August 9, 1914 in Hamburg Township, Michigan; the daughter of William and Eddessa (Black) Nash. Isabelle was a secretary for Argus Camera for 40 years.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mark Papa Bell, the fun loving Papa of 7 "Damn Cute" Grand Kids, passed away April 19th at the University of Michigan Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife Judy, four boys, Allen (Shellie) Bell, Eric (Nikki) Bell, Joe (Dianna) Bell and Jeff Bell; His parents Neil and Kate Bell and sister, Michelle Cotton; son in law of Earl and Nancy Smith, and many neices and nephews. Kay Lydia Curry-Tessmer
April 16, 2009

Kay Lydia Curry-Tessmer, age 69 died on April 16, 2009 at her residence. She was born on January 25, 1940 in River Rouge, Michigan; the daughter of Zolton J. Kozma and Esther Mae Burnham. Kay was a long time resident of the Pinckney area. She was co-owner of Hank's Marina for 13 years during which time she did many varied and interesting things. She did a weekly radio spot and wrote articles for local papers on fishing the lakes in the area. She also worked at Malloy Inc. for 12 years. She was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 1224 and a member of the Livingston County Wildlife and Conservation Club. She was an avid double bogey golfer and spent many summers with a golf club in hand. After retirement she began painting landscapes and playing league pool. Kay loved and lived life to the fullest. She had a huge heart and lived life her way. But most of all she loved her children, grandchildren, nature and animals. On November 25, 1992 she married her loving husband Michael Tessmer. Surviving are her husband Michael, sons Randy (Louise) Nolff, Eric (Colleen) Nolff, Scott (Susan) Doman, David Doman and Daughter Lisa Jordan. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Michael Nolff, Ami Sellers, David Nolff of Virginia, Jessica Nolff, Matthew Nolff and Kalyn Nolff of Pinckney, Kenneth Jordan, Sara Jordan of Belleville, Andrew Doman and Emily Doman of Brooklyn, great grandchildren Christopher Sellers, Logan Sellers, Aubrey Nolff and Richard Nolff. Stepchildren John and James Tessmer. Sisters, Elizabeth Nottingham and Joyce Birdsong; brothers, Frank and Robert Depa; her cousin, Chloe and her best friends, Claire Kunz and Gayle Fox. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, Joseph and 2 grandchildren, Christina Jordan and Samuel Nolff. Funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 on Monday April 20. Kay has requested that those who knew her not mourn, but join us in a celebration of her journey to a new life. A party will be held to honor her wishes at the Livingston County Wildlife and Conservation Club following her funeral service. Patricia Ann Charboneau, age 64, died Thursday evening, April 2, 2009 at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was born September 28, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan; Patsy was the 14th child of George E. and Evelyn (Jones) Charboneau. She spent most of her life in a health care setting. Surviving are 12 siblings, Milton, Marvel and Clement "Kem" of Pinckney, James of North Carolina, Donald of Kansas, Everett of North Carolina, Gerold of Nebraska, Merlyn of Whitmore Lake, Marlene Sikorski of Pinckney, Elaine Shaffer of Indiana, Donna McCarty of Texas and Diane Bury of Alabama; she was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lorraine, three brothers, Robert, Wayne and Robert Anthony.
Little Patsy has left us. She's gone to that beautiful land, where angels, bright angels are waiting to receive her, as one of their band.
Funeral mass will be held 10 AM Monday, April 6, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Pinckney, Michigan. Family will receive friends 5-8 PM Sunday at Shelters Funeral Home.


 
 
Norman Lewis Melby
April 2, 2009

Norman Lewis Melby, 63 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Thursday evening April 2, 2009 at his residence after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Norm was born on October 5, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Lars and Elizabeth (Trail) Melby. On December 11, 1965 Norm married his loving wife of 44 years Shirley Czerwinski and she survives, he is also survived by his children, James Melby of Hamburg, Laura (Scott) Snuverink of Ann Arbor and Jennifer (Jason) Galloway of Lincoln Park; his grandchildren, Ashley and Ryan Snuverink and Jacob and Joshua Galloway. Norm was preceded in death by his mother, father and a brother, Bruce Melby.

Norm loved outdoor activities including hunting, fishing and golf.

He served his country as a member of the United States Army stationed in Alaska. He continued to serve the community as a 29 year veteran of the Ann Arbor Police Department where he retired with the rank of Lieutenant in 1996.

Norm was an active Member, Secretary and Past Master of Livingston Lodge 76 Free and Accepted Masons. Past Commander of Howell Commandery 28 Knights Templar. Past Worthy Patron of Pinckney Chapter 145 Order of the Eastern Star.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service in his honor, followed by a luncheon, will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 4:00pm at the Pinckney Masonic Hall 210 Mann St. Pinckney, Michigan 48169. Gwendolyn L. Watkins, 79 years, of Milford, Michigan and a former long-time Gregory, Michigan resident died Thursday morning, March 19, 2009 at West Hickory Haven Nursing Home.

She was born August 31, 1929 in Pinckney, Michigan; the daughter of Abner and Ethel (Swarthout) Watkins.

Funeral service will be held 1 PM Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan with burial in Pinckney Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 AM until the time of service.

Dolores Ramm, 78 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Wednesday evening, March 18, 2009 at the Howell Care Center in Howell, Michigan.

She was born August 11, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan; the daughter of Clarence and Mary (Onofrey) Klawe. Dolores married Richard Ramm on May 30, 1950 in Livonia, Michigan and he preceded in death July 30, 2004.

She is survived by her son, Martin Ramm; three daughters, Denise Shults, Susan Masell and Lisa Vroman; four grandchildren, one great grandchild; two sisters, Ruth Britcher and Betty Hoyt.

Dolores was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Pinckney, Michigan.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday, March 23 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan, cremation will follow service. Family will receive friends 2-8 PM Sunday with a Rosary Prayer at 7:30 PM.

Lawrence Ford, 94 years, of Hamburg, Michigan died Tuesday afternoon, March 17, 2009 at his residence.

He was born on December 29, 1914 in Flint, Michigan; the son of Thomas and Alice (Broadbent) Ford. Lawrence married Doreen Blades and she survives, he is also survived by a daughter, Francis Roberts.

Lawrence was a Amry Veteran of WWII.

Sheila Louise Ringle-Senter, of Mesa, Arizona and a former long-time South Lyon, Michigan resident died Wednesday evening, February 25, 2009 at the Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona.

She was born November 24, 1971 in Howell, Michigan; the daughter of Elwyn and Alberta (Wollenhaupt) Ringle.

Sheila is survived by two sons, Daniel Ringle and Shaw Senter; four brothers, Lewis, Lawrence, Lane and Leslie; two sisters, Terri Fultz and Brenda Brooks; preceded in death by her mother and father and her brother, Lee.

Ronald A. Bozek, 66 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Wednesday evening, January 21, 2009 at the V.A. Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

He was born December 13, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Julius and Leona (Golembiewski) Bozek. Ronald married Catherine Kelly and she survives.

Ron is also survived by sons, Kevin Bozek, Casey Turner and Scott Turner and Daughter, Erin Griffin; three grandchildren; his mother, Leona Bozek and his brother John Bozek and his sister, Patricia Abramczyk.

Ron is a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War; member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Pinckney, Michigan, Knights of Columbus Council #11761; Rolling Thunder Chapter 5.

Delia P. Silski, 54 years, of Ann Arbor, Michigan and a former long-time Pinckney, Michigan resident died Monday morning, January 19, 2009 at her residence.

She was born May 26, 1954 in Kingston, New York; the daughter of Hubert and Patricia Bodie Garcia. Delia married David Silski on May 12, 1973 in Florida and he preceded in death February 19, 2006.

She is survived by three sons, Peter, Stephen, David and her daughter, Margaret.

Delia worked for the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Ronald E. Payne, 68 years, of Stockbridge, Michigan died Saturday evening, January 17, 2009 at his residence.

He was born January 31, 1940 in Dexter, Michigan; the son of Robert and Grace Payne. Ronald married Patricia Pope on November 23, 1960 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and she survives.

Ronald is also survived by two daughters, Teresa Ball and Mary Pearson; two sons, William Payne and Steve Payne; nine grandchildren; his brother, Robert Payne and sister, Evelyn Smith.

Ronald worked for Ford Motor Co. as a hydraulic pipe fitter.

Logan J. Bennett

Logan J. Bennett, 76 years, of Jackson, Michigan and a former long-time Dexter resident died Saturday morning, January 10, 2009 at his residence.

He was born September 26, 1932 in Columbia, Kentucky; the son of Henry and Dolly (Bunch) Bennett. Logan married Clara Marion Kaiser on June 2, 1962 in Howell, Michigan and she preceded him in death April 24, 1990. On December 21, 1992 he married Jackie Jarrell in Jackson, Michigan and she survives.

he is also survived by three daughters, Vickie Bennett, Michelle Watters and Leann Bennett; one son, Michael Bennett; two grandchildren, Lacie and Darcie Snay; his sister, Betty Hamon.

Logan was a sheet metal worker for Local #80 and a navy veteran of the Korean war.

Dorothy J. Wetherbee, 89 years, of Fowlerville, Michigan died Wednesday evening, January 7, 2009 at St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital in Howell, Michigan.

She was born November 20, 1919 in Ann Arbor, Michigan; the daughter of Glen and Melvina (Devine) Naylor. Dorothy married Thomas Wetherbee on November 27, 1937 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan and he preceded her in death March 27, 2000.

Survivors include her daughter, Marlene Beck; three sons, John, Thomas and Ralph; eleven grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren; her sister Verna and brothers, Bill and Charles. Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, James and daughter, Mary Kay Herbon.

Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Sue Thomas; three sons, James Patterson, Danny Patterson and Charles Boyne; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; her brother Samuel Smith and three sisters, Ray Woody, Betty Mullersman and Arlene Huxtable.

Keith E. Yost, 72 years, of Lakeland Florida and a former long-time Pinckney Michigan resident died Wednesday evening, December 3, 2008 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Lakeland Florida.

He was born on July 28, 1936 in Monroe County, Ohio; the son of Roy and Mary Olive Cline Yost. Keith married Eunice Ritchie on June 2, 1954 and she survives.

He is also survived by one son, Michael; daughter, Sandy Groom; three grandchildren; Keith was preceded in death by two sons, Ray and Gregory.

Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Monday, December 8, 2008 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney Michigan with Rev. Lynn Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinckney Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1-8 PM Sunday.

Roseann M. Victorson, 63 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Tuesday evening, December 2, 2008 at Chelsea Community Hospital in Chelsea, Michigan.

She was born October 31, 1945 in Dearborn, Michigan; the daughter of Anton and Etta Shaw Reginek. Roseann married Allan Victorson on June 19, 1976 in Pinckney Michigan and he survives.

She is also survived by her son, Tim Woniewski and her daughter, Dawn Woniewski both of Pinckney; granddaughter Nikole; two sisters, Dorothy O'Neal and Marietta Gowlewski.

Funeral service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, December 6 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. Ronald Rein officiating. Cremation will follow service. Family will receive friends 1-8 PM Friday and 10 AM until time of service on Saturday.

Leota Reason, age 88, of Pinckney, Michigan died Thursday afternoon, November 27, 2008 at the Masonic Pathway in Alma, Michigan.

She was born August 6, 1920 in Pinckney, Michigan; the daughter of Claude and Edna Carpenter Reason.

Leota is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Leota worked for Chrysler Corp. and was a lifetime member of The Order of Eastern Star Chapter #145.

A Eastern Star memorial service will be held at 7 PM Sunday, November 30, 2008. Funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday, December 1, 2008 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. Lynn Martin officiating. Family will receive friends 3-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

She was born June 16, 1931 in Ann Arbor, Michigan; the daughter of Frank and Helen (Walley) Barnard. Jean married Charles "Bud" Staebler on July 14, 1951 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and he survives.

Jean is also survived by her daughter, Claire (Kevin) Donovan and daughter-in-law, April Staebler; five grandchildren, Renelle, Michael, Denise, Garrett, Spenser and one great grandchild, Jace. Jean was preceded in death by her son, David.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Shelters Funeral Home 250 N Mill St. Pinckney, Michigan. Family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Wednesday, October 15 and 10 AM until time of service on Thursday. Donations can be made to the family in lieu of flowers.

He was born November 9, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri; the son of Carter and Wilma Coker Martin. Tim married Penny Linton on November 12, 1977 in Edmore, Michigan and she survives.

He is also survived by his son, Corey, his brother, Rexford and his sister Nancy.

Tim retired from General Motors Corp. and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

John Plasha, 92 years,of Wildwood, Florida and a former long-time Pinckney, Michigan resident died Sunday evening, September 21, 2008 at Arbor Village Nursing Home in Wildwood, Florida.

He was born January 8, 1916 in Highland Park, Michigan; the son of George and Angeline Codes Plasha. John married Dorothy Tant on April 1, 1978 in Pinckney, Michigan and she preceded him in death on January 24, 1991.

John was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service and a Army Veteran of WWII, he was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Pinckney.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday, September 26, 2008 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan with burial in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Family will receive friends 4-7 PM Thursday.

Linda Diane McCall, 60 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Wednesday evening September 10, 2008 from complications related to her recent diagnosis of cancer.

She was born July 3, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan; the daughter of George and Thelma Owens Tubert. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ed McCall Sr.

Linda is also survived by one son, Scott (Andrea) McCall and grandchildren, Jacob and Nathan; one daughter, Tracy (Dan Jr.) Rendell and grandchildren, Kelsey and Luke; stepchildren, Dave (Lana) McCall and grandchildren, David, Ashley, Andrea; Tom (Renee) McCall and grandchildren, Tom and Dan; Ed (Pam) McCall Jr.; she is also survived by her mother, Thelma Tubert; mother-in-law, Vivian McCall and brother and sister in-laws, Jerry and Doe McCall, Elaine Duffy and Carla McCall.

Linda would say her greatest accomplishment is the strong family that she nourished during her 60 years, smiling, strong, loving and nurturing.

Two days short of his 75th birthday, Robert Edgar Dolata left this earth in his sleep at his beloved home/cottage on Hi-land Lake in Hell Michigan. He was born on Sept 8, 1933 to Mathew J. and Hannah K. (Houvineu) Dolata. His beloved wife Dorothy Blevins Dolata passed on August 19, 1999. He is survived by his son, R. Daniel Dolata (Lynda) of Boise Idaho. One grandson, Dustin Daniel (Mary) Dolata of Nampa Idaho and great grandaughter Madison; Granddaughter, Dr. Danalyn E. (Brandon) Workentin of Boise, and two great grandsons, Matthew aka "Max" and Christopher; and granddaughter Darcy A.D. (David) Fonger of Nampa, Idaho, and two great grandsons, Jaden and Colten. His dog, Miss Dash, the Bassett Hound. One niece, Linda (Bob) Crump of Novi, Michigan also kept tabs on him. He has one sister, June (Gerry) Neumark of Atlanta Georgia.

"Bob" was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a staunch patriot. He then pursued a career as a teamster/truck driver for Koenig Fuel and Supply for many years. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 140 in Detroit and Hamburg Post # 1224. He also volunteered many hours of service at the VA hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Recently he became active in the Putnam Township planning and zoning commission and the election board.

In lieu of flowers, you could take a friend to vote, or out to lunch, or volunteer in your community, or make a donation to the cancer society or heart association.

Bob will be sorely missed by his "Girl friends", Miss Dash, Pam, Liz and Jeri, and Doris. As a volunteer at the VA he always had greeting or a comeback for everyone needing his "guidance',"Bobisms". He always spoke his mind, but hated good byes, so Dad this isn't good bye, just till we meet again. Love Dan and Lynda, family and friends.

She was born February 13, 1935 in Southfield, Michigan; the daughter of Irwin and Lauretta (Doan) Jarvis. Betty married Charles Baker on November 6, 1954 and he preceded her in death July 27, 1985.

Betty is survived by two sons, Alan (Laurie) Baker of Phoenix, Arizona, Calvin (Susan) Baker of Howell, Michigan; one daughter, Sheryl (John Jr.) Francis of Thompsonville, Michigan; nine grandchildren and three brothers, John, Thomas and James.

Morgan Kathleen Carey age 16 of Pinckney Michigan departed this life on Friday afternoon, August 22, 2008 after a long struggle with brain cancer. She is survived by her parents, Dawn and Kevin, her brother Ryan and sister Meaghan, a great grandparent, grand parents, aunts and uncles and numerous cousins.
Morgan got through this struggle with firm faith and an ability to reach out and touch others even in the midst of her own suffering. She was supported during her final illness by her family, her many friends, acquaintances, and even strangers from the village of Pinckney and surrounding area. The family wishes to thank them for all they have done and is especially thankful for the care she received at Mott's Children's Hospital. A memorial service will be held 10 AM Saturday, August 30th at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 306 North Division, Ann Arbor. Frank "Smiley" Campbell, 81 years, of Brighton, Michigan died Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008 at his residence.

Frank was born November 17, 1926 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania; the son of George and Effie Mae (Bird) Campbell; He married Mary Clark on June 5, 1952 in Ohio and she preceded him in death on January 16, 1997.

Frank is survived by two sons, Arthur (Rebecca) Campbell of Elkhart, Indiana, James (Pam) Campbell of Brighton, MI; two daughters, Patricia (Terry) Hodges of Lake, MI, and Janet (Michael) DiCarlo of Pinckney,MI; five grandchildren.

Frank was a heavy equipment operator for Kensington Metro Park and he served with the US Army during WW II.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday, August 22, 2008 at Shelters Funeral Home 250 N Mill St. Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. Mark Milatz of Shepherd Of The Lakes Lutheran Church officiating. Graden is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean; two daughters, Shirley (Glenn) Stanley and Darla Miller; one son, Larry (Vickie) Kessler; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter; preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Miles in 2007.

He was born on December 10, 1933 in Miamisburg, Ohio; the son of William L. and Lea C. (Gray) Gebhart. James married Marilyn Maki on March 4, 1961 in Miamisburg, Ohio and she survives.

James is also survived by three daughters, Bonita (Jim) Colvin, Leilani Dodson and Jamie Shelton; one son, James (Trish) Gebhart Jr.; six grandchildren; his sister in-law, Vickie (Clint) Ray; one niece and one nephew.

James was a retired mechanical engineer for the auto industry and a Navy veteran of the Korean War. James was also a member of many organizations including the Hale Lodge #518 F&AM, the Shriners, lifetime member of Miamisburg American Legion and the Fraternal Order Of The Eagle #3607 of Howell, Michigan.

Brian was born June 22, 1974 in Howell, Michigan; the son Richard and Cynthia (Lusk) Brockway. He married Rebekah K Martin on September 16, 1995 in Howell, Michigan and she survives.

Brian is also survived by two daughters, Sarah K and Sophie K; his father, Richard (Theresa) Brockway and his mother, Cynthia (Dale) Bennett; a sister, Christine Brockway; a brother, Andrew Bennett and a step brother, Matthew Cameron.

Brian worked for Hatch Stamping Co. of Chelsea, Michigan and was a member of The Brighton Church of the Nazarene.

He was born June 17, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Lawrence and Virginia (Smith) Sopha. Kenneth married Barbara Reum on August 4, 1973 in Detroit, Michigan and she survives.

Kenneth is also survived by two sons, Stephen (Julie) Sopha of Minnesota and Bryan Sopha; his mother, Virginia Sopha of Weidman, Michigan and his sister, Barb (Dennis) Gardner of Fowlerville, Michigan. Ken was preceded in death by his son David, Dec. 7, 1990 and his father Lawrence, Apr. 19, 2007.

Kenneth was a supervisior for Wal-Mart of Howell, Michigan and was a Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.

Genevieve was born on Feb. 17th 1918 in Detroit Mi, the daughter of Martin and Maude (Metras) Amolsch. In her lifetime she has lived in Wayne (Westland), Iron River, and Pinckney, Mi. Genevieve married William J. Henning on Feb. 8th, 1936 and he pre-deceased her in Oct. 1993 after nearly 58 years of marriage. Also pre-deceasing her were six siblings, Eleanor, Martin, Kenneth, Richard, Delores and Daniel. She was the loving mother of Walter (deceased) of Iron River Mi, Jack (Carolyn) of Pinckney, Mi and James of Phoenix Az. Genevieve was the Grandmother of eight, Great Grandmother of eight and Great, Great Grandmother of one. Funeral services will be held at the Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney on Friday, Nov. 30th at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be on Thursday Nov. 29th from noon to 8:00 PM. She was born September 2, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan; the daughter of LeRoy and Catherine (Crumley) Heath. Mary Anne married W. Noel Cooke on September 6, 1951 in Pinckney, Michigan and he survives.

Anne is also survived by two daughters, June Taylor and Lorraine Cooke; four sons, Noel, C.Daniel, Jerry and Mark; twenty four grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren; her sister, Marie Beard and two brothers, Mike Heath and Jerry Heath.

Anne was Vice President for National Bank of Detroit, Ann Arbor branch and also Brighton branch.

Lois A. Burg, 87 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Friday afternoon, November 2, 2007 at the Vista Grande Villa Nursing Home of Jackson, Michigan.

She was born July 28, 1920 in Pinckney, Michigan; the daughter of Claude Henry and Mary Bridget (Lynch) Kennedy. Lois married John F. Burg on September 29, 1939 in Pinckney, Michigan and he preceded in death August 12, 2006.

Survivors include her five sons and a daughter, Karl of Pinckney, Paul (Yvonne) of Jackson, Alan (Kenneth) of Tecumseh, Gary (Jennifer) of Hamburg, Joel (Janet) of Bowling Green, Ohio and Mary (Dean) Burg of Pinckney; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; preceded in death by one son, John and two sisters, Helen VanBlaircum and Rita Howe.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at the Pinckney Congregational Church with Pastor Lynn Martin officiating. Lucille Brown, 83 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Saturday morning, October 27, 2007 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

She was born April 5, 1924 in Saline, Michigan; the daughter of Charles and Matilda (Boettger) Kohler. Lucille married Haskiel Brown Sr. on April 24, 1948 and he preceded in death February 29, 2004.

Lucille is survived by three daughters, Lydia (Bob) Vedder of Pinckney, Pricilla (Ben) Smith of Virginia, Mary (Brian) Sawich of New Hamshire; three sons, Haskiel (Barbara) of Ann Arbor, Donald of Pinckney, Ronald (Theresa) of Brighton; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; five sisters and two brothers; preceded in death by one sister.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday, October 29, 2007 at St. Paul Lutheran Church 7701 M-36 Hamburg, Michigan. Burial in Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Elwyn Lee Ringle, 77 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Friday afternoon, October 12, 2007 at the Veterans Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

He was born July 27, 1930 in Bath, Michigan; the son of Lewis and Carrie (Shepard) Ringle; Elwyn married his loving wife, Alberta Wollenhaupt over fifty years ago and she survives.

Elwyn is also survived by four sons, Lewis, Lawrence, Lane and Leslie and by his three daughters, Terri Fultz, Brenda Brooks and Sheila Center.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial reception will be held 12 noon till 4 PM on Sunday, October 21st at the American Legion Post #419 which is located at 9807 Whitewood Rd. Pinckney, Michigan.

William “Bill” D. Kenny, II, was pronounced dead at his home Sunday, September 30, 2007. His death was described as natural. Bill’s health issues finally caught up to him.

He is survived by his two children, Michael P. Kenny and Sara E. Astorga, Grandchildren, Laura and Amanda Astorga, Son in Law, George Astorga, Sister, Doris Harsant, her husband Jim Harsant, their three children, Linda, David and Steve and their children, Nieces and Nephews Maryann and Joe Detting, their sons Keith and Kevin, Gordon and Michelle McCalla, and Karen McCalla, and the Bigford Family. Proceeded by his untimely death and in loving memory of his sister Joyce McCalla and brother in law Les McCalla.

Bill was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan to parents William David Kenny “Ping” and Louise C. Kenny. Bill attended St. Thomas High School in Ann Arbor, attended some college, and went into the army before he went back to his true passion the shoe business. Where he greatly enjoyed interacting with people. Everyone who knew him had a story to tell. Eventually Bill purchased his own store the Campus Bootery where he was called the unofficial mayor of downtown Ann Arbor. He was very outspoken and active in his community. Bill was married twice and inevitably divorced twice, distance had separated the family when ex-wife Valerie and two children moved to Santa Barbara, Calif. in 1976. However the ties that he created were strong, as many know. Please come join us in remembrance and celebration of his life. On Sunday, September 23, 2007, Eleanor Marie (Smith) Clough passed away
at Medilodge of Howell where she had resided for the past four years.
Eleanor was born in Akron, Ohio on May 16, 1920 to Earl and Edna (Trout) Smith. She moved as a child to Berkley, Michigan where she graduated from Berkley High School. Eleanor worked at the Ford Motor Company in Ypsilanti, where she met the love of her life, Clyde. They married on June 13, 1944, and have resided in Pinckney since 1949. Over her lifetime Eleanor has worked for Crowley Milliners,Ford Motor Company, Pinckney Community Schools, and as an assistant manager at Saunders Confectionary. She was a life member of the Order of the
Eastern Stars (Chapter 145) and was a member of the Ladies Club Society
of the Pinckney Community Congregational United Church of
Christ. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Juanita, and her brothers Harold and Earl. She is survived by her loving husband Clyde, her daughter Linda (Bill) Singer, her granddaughter Michelle (Steven Plate) Singer, her granddaughter Susan (Gary)Thomlinson, and her great-granddaughter Natalie Eleanor Plate. Also surviving is her sister-in-law Ruth (Harold) Smith and her sisters by marriage Doris Timmons and Lois Petru, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Eleanor was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be sorely missed by all.
Visitation will be at Shelters Funeral Home at 250 N. Mill Street,
Pinckney, Michigan, on Tuesday from 6-8 pm and Wednesday from 1-4 and
6-8 pm. Order Of The Eastern Star memorial service will be held at 7 PM. The funeral will be held at Pinckney Community Congregational United Church of Christ on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 11 am.

She was born December 16, 1916 in Marshall, North Carolina; the daughter of John and Bell (Neartherton) Shelton; Viola married Woodrow Massey on April 30, 1936 in Marshall, North Carolina and he preceded her in death on October 21, 2000.

Surviviors include her son, James (Lorraine) Massey and her daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Reams all of Pinckney, MI; three grandchildren, Jerrold, Jeffery and Woody; six great grandchildren, Shelton, Karson, Reagan and J.J. Reams, Samantha and Jessica Massey.

Funeral service will be held 12 noon Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the Peoples Church 425 Unadilla St. Pinckney, Michigan with burial in Pinckney Cemetery. The family will greet friends 5-9 PM Friday at Shelters Funeral Home and 10 AM till time of service at the church.

Dr. William M. Sokol M.D., 86 years of Pinckney, Michigan died Monday afternoon, September 10, 2007 at the Chelsea Retirement Community in Chelsea, Michigan.

William was born April 1, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Michael and Olga (Schmyk) Sokol. He married Edna Beasley on November 3, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan and she preceded in death on October 4, 1999.

He is survived by two daughters, Patti Acton of Pinckney, Michigan and Keri (Gary) Hazen of San Francisco, California; two sons, Donald (Dianne) Sokol of Paw Paw, Michigan and Richard (Jackie Wolf) Sokol of Calumet, Michigan; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Dr. Sokol practiced general surgery at Grace Hospital of Detroit, MI and Huron Valley Hospital of Commerce, MI; he is also a Army Veteran of WW II.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held 3 PM Friday, September 14, 2007 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan. Memorial contributions are asked to the American Heart Association.

Rex L. Hendee, 77 years, of Cadiz, Kentucky and a former long-time Pinckney, Michigan resident died Saturday morning, August 18, 2007 at Whitehall Healthcare Center in Novi, Michigan.

He was born January 14, 1930 in Pinckney, Michigan; the son of Lynn and Beulah (Burgess) Hendee. Rex married Dalene Marie Robinson on October 2, 1954 in Hamburg, Michigan and she preceded in death on October 20, 1998.

He is survived by two sons, Daniel of Novi and Richard of Kentucky; three grandchildren; his brother, Gayle of Owosso.

Robert L. Egeler, 86 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Tuesday afternoon, August 14, 2007 at his residence.

He was born March 28, 1921 in Ann Arbor, Michigan; the son of Lewis and Laura (Gutekunst) Egeler. Robert married Alice Smith on September 27, 1946 in Lansing, Michigan and she survives.

Robert is also survived by a son, Edward (Jenny) Egeler of Williamston, MI and a daughter, Bonnie (Richard) Dukes of Grand Ledge, MI; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren;four brothers, Raymond, Douglas, Edwin and Erwin; one sister, May Hardy. He was preceded in death by his son, Clifford Egeler.

Robert owned and operated Pinckney Body Shop, he was a U.S. Marshall and a Livingston County Deputy. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. A Member of the Dexter American Legion and a member of Livingston Lodge #76 Free and Accepted Masons.

Larry Edward Broat, 56 years, of Pinckney, Michigan, died Saturday evening, August 4, 2007 at his residence.

Larry was born December 27, 1950 in Fort Wayne, Indiana; the son of Robert and Louise (Phillips) Broat. He married Lesley Reed on June 30, 1973 in Vernon Center, New York and she survives.

Larry is also survived by three daughters, Kyle (Bob) Kirkby, Megan Broat and Sarah Broat; his mother and father; five brothers, Paul (Terri) Broat, Ray (Diane) Broat, Rick (Susan) Broat, Dave (Maryanne) Broat and Dan Broat; one sister, Deb (Brett) Michaels.

Larry was the Services Manager for Thomson-Shore of Dexter, Michigan.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday, August 11 at the Pinckney Congregational Church 125 E. Unadilla St. Pinckney, Michigan. Family will receive friends 10 AM till time of service.

Larry gave the Gift of Life, by becoming an organ and tissue donor.

Paul Mitchell Horal, 84 years, of Melbourne, Florida and formerly of Detroit and Brighton, Michigan died Sunday, July 29, 2007 in Brighton.

Paul was born July 5, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Paul and Helen (Mitchell) Horal. He married Mary Ann McGee of Marquette, Michigan, who preceded him in death July 28, 2000.

Surviving are nine children, James (Kathryn) of Brighton, Thomas (Karen) of Larkspur, Colorado, Patricia (Stanley) Murphy of Melbourne, Florida, Dennis (Sharon) of Boca Raton, Florida, Daniel (Jane) of Brighton, Helen (William deceased) Smith of Battle Creek, Michigan, William (Louise) of Brighton, Jerome of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Eileen (Lawrence) Michaelson of Melbourne, Florida. He was also preceded in death by a son, John. Proud grandfather of 21 and great grandfather of 4. Also survived by a brother, Thomas Horal of Washington, Michigan and a sister Jean (Victor) Lopus of Farmington, Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.

Paul graduated from St. Mary of Redford in 1941 and the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York in 1944. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He retired in 1986 and moved to Melbourne, Florida.

Memorial mass will be held Tuesday, August 7th at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Brighton, Michigan with Rev. Fr. Jeffery Poll as celebrant. The family will greet friends Tuesday at 9:30 at the church.

She was born December 8, 1912 in Owendale, Michigan; the daughter of William and May (Snay) Polliey; Marguerite married Clifford L. Hollister on September 15, 1928 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and he preceded in death November 7, 1981.

Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Viola Nickell of Pinckney; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia McCabe and Sylvia Hubbard. She was preceded in death by her son, Clifford Jr. October 13, 1982.

He was born March 20, 1948 in Ypsilanti, Michigan; the son of Norton and Evelyn (Rutherford) Grannis. Jerry married Caroline Nelson on December 5, 1969 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and she survives.

He is also survived by one son, Jerry of Portage, MI; two daughters, Amanda Eicher of Illinois and Katherine Kramer of Pinckney, MI; eleven grandchildren; his mother and father of Dexter, MI; two brothers, Richard of Gregory, MI and Ronald of Dexter, MI; two sisters, Kathy Morrison of Addison, MI and Cynthia Mosley of Dexter, MI; preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Bradford.

Jerry was a manager for a plastic manufacturing company. He served with the U.S. Army Company C Second Battalion during the Vietnam War.

Carroll F. Briggs (Bond), 65, died at Stockbridge Country Manor on Friday,

June 15, 2007, following a lengthy illness. Carroll was born on April 8, 1942 in Owosso, MI, the daughter of Loy and Leta (George) Bond. She was a graduate of Pinckney High School, class of 1961.

Carroll loved to spend time with her family and had provided child-care for many youngsters. She enjoyed playing games, shopping, cooking and baking. She loved Bingo and would have her heart set on giving the prize to someone else, long before she even won! That alone, made her a winner! She was such a caring and generous person, putting other’s needs far above her own. Carroll displayed a wonderful sense of humor throughout her struggles with her health and she knew her family and friends right to the end. She politely obeyed the RULE - “Life is short so start with dessert.”

Carroll was a very loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt and friend. She is survived by her son Mark Owens of Pinckney and her daughter Joyce; brother Ronald (Linda) Bond, of Grand Rapids; sisters, Gloria (Jim) Swank, of Jackson; Bonnie Bond, of Pinckney and Nancy (Bob) Hall, of Brighton as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition she leaves behind her many friends and loving caregivers at the Stockbridge Nursing Home where she had resided for the past seven years.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Robert Briggs; her stepson, Glenn Briggs; brother Gary Bond and both of her parents. Memorial donations in her remembrance may be made to St. George Special Ministries, 803 W. Main St., Brighton, MI 48116, or designated to the family for Mark’s continued care.

Dorothy is also survived by two daughters, Helen Dowty and Collette Vierling; six grandchildren; her mother, Martha Grabowski; one brother, Steve Grabowski; two sisters, Mary Workman and Ann Hankel.

Richard was born March 31, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Thomas and Agnes (Mijk) Osiecki. He married Gladys D. Pedigo on December 26, 1954 and she survives.

He is also survived by six daughters, Vickie McGinnis, Linda Johnson, Patty Verellen, Teresa Frenette, Angela Osiecki and DeAnna Carvana; two sons, Rickie and Harry; Fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Richard retired from Reuland Electric Co. of Howell, Michigan.

Audrey S. Dinkel, 76 years, of Howell, Michigan died Friday morning, May 25, 2007 at her residence.

Audrey was born May 11, 1931 in Brighton, Michigan; the daughter of Henry and Mildred Hyne Klekot. She married Alan J. Dinkel on June 29, 1956 in Brighton, Michigan and he survives.

Audrey was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a homemaker and always assisted her husband, Alan, with building homes and raising melons. She enjoyed gardening, mowing lawn, painting and sewing.

Audrey is also survived by two daughters, Kim (Dave) Howard and Tammy (Gary) Beal; one son, Alan Dinkel all of Howell, Michigan; four grandchildren, Chad Heckler, Brad Beal, Kitsey Beal and Ryan Howard; two sisters, Mildred (Lloyd) Drayton of Lake Montezuma, AZ and Eleanor (Lloyd) Montzingo of Seattle, WA.

Norman retired from the United States Postal Service; he is a veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of the Livingston Lodge #76 F&A.M.

Ruth was born February 25, 1929 in Fremont, Indiana; the daughter of Clynt and Bess (Dotts) Carpenter; she married Jack Stoddard in 1948 and he preceded in death March 28, 2002.

Surviviors include two sons, Larry (Dee) Stoddard of Milford, Gary (Denise) Stoddard of Whitmore Lake; her daughter, Marianne (Bob) Stoliker of Plymouth; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, May 22 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. Kennyon Edwards officiating, burial will follow in the Pinckney Cemetery. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday May 21 at the funeral home.

Walter Stanley Lipinski, 85 years, of Trenton, Michigan and a former Pinckney, Michigan resident died Wednesday morning, May 2, 2007 at his residence.

He was born November 28, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Joseph and Boleslava Lipinski.

Walter was a commercial photographer. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force combat photography unit during WWII.

Walter is survived by his wife, Vivian; his daughter, Claudia (Ron) Manner; his two sons, Tom (Penny) Lipinski, Jim (Kim) Lipinski; his step children, Becky Kirchoff, Kathy (Steve) Hannah, Pam (Tom) Ferguson; seventeen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his first wife, Mary; a grand daughter, Kelly Widdick and a step daughter, Donna Walter and his two brothers.

Funeral mass will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, May 5, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church 10601 Dexter-Pinckney Rd. Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. Fr. Kenneth Coughlin as celebrant with burial in Pine Lake Cemetery in West Bloomfield, Michigan. He was born June 25, 1949 in Ypsilanti, Michigan; the son of Perry and Violet (Gokee) Kightlinger. Richard married Diane Wheeler May 28, 1977 in Gregory, Michigan and she survives.

He is also survived by his daughter, Angela (Eric) Mayeaux of Ravenna, Michigan; two sons, Ryan and Shawn both of Florida; two grandchildren, Grace and Alexandra Mayeaux; his sister, Janice (Don) Fink of Florida.

Lawrence J. Sopha, 80 years, of Weidman, Michigan died Thursday afternoon, April 19, 2007 at his residence.

He was born October 26, 1926 in Zurich Ontario Canada; the son of Dolph and Priscilla (Durcharm) Sopha. Lawrence married Virginia Smith on August 30, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan and she survives.

He is also survived by his son, Kenneth (Barb) Sopha of Howell, Michigan and his daughter, Bard (Dennis) Gardner of Fowlerville, Michigan; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters, Ermadine Bedard and Doreen Detrich; one brother, Philip Sopha; he was preceded in death by one grandchild, David.

Funeral mass will be held 11 AM Monday, April 23, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. Fr. Kenneth Coughlin as celebrant, burial will follow in the Pinckney Cemetery. He was born November 5, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Stanley and Veronica (Durolick) Granet. James married Eileen Mahoney on January 3, 1959 in Indiana and she survives.

James is also survived by two sons, Kenneth and John; one daughter, Athena Concialdi; two sisters, Virginia Oncza and Violet Shoaff.

James owned and operated Granet Window Cleaning.

She was born November 26, 1915 in Detroit, Michigan; the daughter of Earlen and Margaret (Eilers) McGillespie. Dorothy married John Lindlbauer and he preceded her in death June 22, 1980.

Dorothy is survived by four daughters, Patricia Lindlbauer, Joanne Lopicolo, Mary Ann Wolak and Barbara Marshall; one son, Ronald Lindlbauer; sixteen grandchildren, thirty eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Funeral mass will be held 10 AM Monday, April 2, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church 10601 Dexter-Pinckney Rd. Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. Fr. Kenneth Coughlin as celebrant. Glenda M. Pettis, 72 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Tuesday morning, March 27, 2007 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan after a brief illness.

She was born September 9, 1934 in South Lyon, Michigan; the daughter of Louis and Phyllis (Losey) Witt. Glenda married Clare Pettis on September 21, 1951 in Flint, Michigan and he preceded in death March 26, 1992.

Mother of Leslie (Susan) and Gary, wonderful Grandma to Adam, loving Great Grandma to Cooper, little sister to Jean (Maurice) Bohm, cherised Aunt to several nieces and nephews, good friend to many. She will be missed by all who knew her. Her little dog Tiny, too. We will miss her dry humor, knitting and crocheting skills, crafting ability and love of gardening. How appropriate she passed as the first flowers and buds of Spring are visible. She will especially miss her dear friends and neighbors, Sue and Greg Gardner, who are the true meaning of the word neighbor. She is finally at rest.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Shelters Funeral Home 250 N Mill St. Pinckney, Michigan. Cremation will follow service. Family will receive friends 5-8 PM Friday, March 30 at the funeral home, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jeanne was born September 17, 1924 in Putnam Township, Michigan; the daughter of Gilbert and Emily VanSlambrook Campbell. Jeanne married George Down on May 14, 1948 in Pinckney, Michigan and he preceded in death August 11, 1978.

Survivors include three sons, William, Randy, and Michael; her daughter, Nancy Moule; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney Michigan with burial in Pinckney Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Friday evening.


 
 
Ethel Crozer Stevens

Ethel C. Stevens, 88 years, passed away Friday morning, February 23, 2007 at Chelsea Community Hospital in Chelsea, Michigan.

Ethel was born January 31, 1919 in Hamilton Square, New Jersey; the daughter of Madeleine Crozer and Harold Dennis. Ethel married William R. Stevens on December 31, 1941 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and he preceded in death April 14, 1972.

Ethel had many friends, who she cherished. She loved to play bridge and played as often as possible with several different groups. For over thirty-eight years she was a volunteer at the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop. Ethel was a Past President of the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop, Conger Alumnae Group, and Ann arbor Book and Thimble Club. She was a charter member of the Huron Portage Yacht Club and a very special member of the Portage Lake Ladies Therapeutic Association. Ethel sang in the U of M Musical Society Choral Union for many years. Ethel was "famous" for her specialty Congo Bars! Ethel has had a lifelong involvement with the University of Michigan, both as a student and as a "fan". She attended the U of M Lab School (elementary), University High School, and the U of M. She attended most U of M home games for over 50 years, attending her last one at age 86.

Ethel is survived by Denis R. Stevens (Marcia) of Highland, Michigan, Madeleine A.(Mimi) Roelof of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Alan T. Stevens of Pinckney, Michigan. She is also survived by the joys of her life: nine grandchildren(Amy, Jenni, Debbie, Steve, Jay, Rachel, Rebecca, Peter and Paul), and nine great-grandchildren(Grant, Jake, Luke, Brent, Drew, Nate, Nick, Gus and Kara).

Cremation has taken place. A tea in her honor will be held for family and friends on Monday, March 5, 2007 from 2:30 until 4:30 PM at the Ann Arbor Women's City Club. A celebration of her life will occur this simmer at her beloved Portage Lake. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association, the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop or the Chelsea Retirement Community.

Phyllis was born September 17, 1938 in Virginia; the daughter of Newt and Marjorie (Tillet) Ball. She married Charles Adams and he survives.

She is also survived by two daughters, Joyce (Terry) Rogers and Brenda (Leo) Devine; her brother, Bernard Ball; step children, Jeff Adams, Jamie Adams, Becky Weiss and Lori Smith; step sister Susie. Phyllis was preceded in death by her daughter, Nana Presley.

She was born December 6, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan; the daughter of John and Mary (Matysiak) Porzondek. Dorothy married Edwin Victorson and he preceded her in death March 4, 1987.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, Kenneth of Chicago, Allan of Pinckney and Kim of Stockbridge; one grandchild; her sister, Gloria Zube and her brother Harry Porzondek.

William E. Myher, 80 years, of Gregory, Michigan died Thursday morning, January 25, 2007 at the Chelsea Community Hospital in Chelsea, Michigan.

He was born January 21, 1927 in Pennsylvania; the son of John and Amalia (Otrinchak) Myher; William married Helen Mutsko on November 13, 1948 and she preceded in death September 12, 1997.

William is survived by a daughter, Diane Spurr; four sons, William (Barb) Myher, Robert Myher, Daniel (Susan) Myher and Michael (Kristin) Myher; ten grandchildren and his sister, Annie Fedorka.

William retired from the Chrysler Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Michigan; he is a Army Veteran of the Korean War; a volunteer fireman for the Unadilla Fire Department for over 40 years, he was also a very active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Pinckney, Michigan.

Funeral mass will be held 11 AM Monday, January 29, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Kenneth Coughlin as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mary Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 PM Saturday, 2-4 and 6-8 Sunday with a rosary being prayed at 7 and Monday morning 10 AM till time of mass at the church.

Eugene Junior Dinkel, 86 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Monday evening, January 15, 2007 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

He was born November 11, 1920 in Pinckney, Michigan; the son of Eugene G. and Mabel E. Smith Dinkel. Gene married Fran Higgs January 10, 1977 in Florida and she survives.

He is also survived by Tamra (Frank) Samples of Pinckney, Terrie (Rob) Lyerla of Pinckney, and Dan (Val) Haines of North Carolina; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Gene was a detective for the Michigan State Police, retiring after 30 years of service, then became Director of Safety and Security for Ingham Co. Medical Center, he was also a body guard for Governor Williams. Eugene was a Navy Veteran of WWII, he was a life time member of the Hamburg VFW Post 1224, American Legion of Howell, AmVets, Livingston County Wildlife and Conservation Club, Howell Elks, Moose Lodge, Eagles, Michigan State Trooper Association and Michigan State Police Command Officers Association.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, January 19, 2007 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan with Rev. Ronald Rein officiating, burial will follow in Pinckney Cemetery. The family will meet friends Wednesday 5-8 PM and Thursday 11-8 PM at the funeral home.

Merlyn "Bud" Ostrum, 83 years, of Tipton, Michigan and a former long-time Pinckney, Michigan resident died Thursday afternoon, December 21, 2006 at the Herrick Memorial Hospital in Tecumseh, Michigan.

He was born September 8, 1923 in Petoskey, Michigan; the son of Delos and Effie Cochran Ostrum. Merlyn married Ethelyn Barnes on June 10, 1950 in Charlevoix, Michigan and she preceded in death June 28, 2000.

He is survived by one daughter, Karen Ballard of New York; two sons, Harold of Pennsylvania and James of Tipton, MI; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; preceded in death by his daughter, Marlyn.

Merlyn retired from the Chrysler Corporation.

Laura was born May 25, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan; the daughter of Harry and Ann (Remus) Lackner.

She is survived by her children, Jim Susalla of Brighton, Sandy Carter of Westland, Paul Susalla of South Lyon and Karen Susalla of Ann Arbor; four grandchildren.

Laura owned and operated Laura's Craft Shop of Brighton, Michigan.

Margaret Agnes (nee Vasek) Wakeman, of Pinckney, MI, died with her family by her side Monday, November 6, 2006 at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI.
Mrs. Wakeman was born July 11, 1929 in Coal City, Illinois to James and Marion (nee Brown) Vasek. After graduating from Coal City high school, she earned her R.N. from Presbyterian St. Luke’s in Chicago. October 6, 1950 she married William Marta Wakeman. She later attended both Joliet Junior College and Olivet University, earning a BA in Education and a Masters Degree. She taught in both the Wilmington and Crete-Monee school districts. Mrs. Wakeman was a former member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church, Coal City, where four generations of her family attended. She and her late husband were members of the White Star Chapter of the Eastern Star, Braidwood, Illinois.
Mrs. Waksman’s love of travel took her to many countries and in recent years she did extensive genealogy research in her Czech, Irish and Scot heritage, as well as her late husband’s Italian heritage. She enjoyed staying in touch with her many friends in Illinois after moving to Michigan through letter writing and cards.
Surviving are her two children; Alice Roderick, of Pinckney, Michigan and Alan (Ann) Wakeman of Indianapolis, Indiana, and five grandchildren: Lauren Roderick, Alex Roderick, Lindsay (Tim) Church, Juli Wakeman and Kimberly Wakeman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister, Mary Alice Groth of Belton, TX.
A family memorial service has been planned at the First Presbyterian Church of Brighton, Michigan at 4 PM on Saturday November 25th, 2006.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the American Diabetes Association, or, the Coal City Library for furthering their genealogy collection of reference materials.

Robert Allen Trudell, “Bob” - Age 76, died peacefully Saturday morning, October 28, 2006, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.

He was born on February 7, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Allie and Elsie (Ermatinger) Trudell. Bob married Valerie Burke on June 1, 1963 in Berkley, Michigan and his loving wife preceded him in death on March 21, 1999. He is also preceded in death by his brother Francis Trudell.

Bob is survived by a son, Thomas (Yvonne) Trudell of Pinckney; two daughters, Tracy (Michael) Simons of Plymouth and Taryn Trudell of Westland; and one granddaughter, Danielle Simons.

Bob was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and served in the Korean War.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 3, 2006 at Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan. Family will receive friends on Friday, November 3rd from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.

He was born Frbruary 4, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan; the son of Alfred V. and Mable (Rohrer) Galecki. Robert married Donna McAllister on May 28, 1999 in Toledo, Ohio and she survives.

Robert is also survived by a son, Robert M. Galecki of Milford MI. and a daughter, Nichole R. Masse of Cedar Rapids MI. and two grandchildren.

Robert was a marine veteran of the Vietnam war and recipient of the Purple Heart.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM Thursday, October 19, 2006 at the Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan. Burial will follow at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan where he will receive full military honors. Family will receive friends 1-8 PM on Wednesday.

Survivors include one son, Don Roger Cagle and one daughter, Betty Lyn Cagle both of Fowlerville; Mother, Victoria Cagle of Pinckney; Father, Roger (Donna) Cagle of Milan; Brother, Del (Joyce) Cagle of Whitmore Lake.

John Franklin Burg, 90 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Saturday morning, August 12, 2006 at the Foote Health System in Jackson, Michigan.

John was born April 2, 1916 in Pittsfield Township in Washtenaw County; the son of John Ashley and Mary Elizabeth (Maulbetsch) Burg. John married Lois Anna Kennedy on September 29, 1939 in Pinckney, Michigan and she survives.

John is also survived by five sons and a daughter, Karl of Pinckney, Paul (Yvonne) of Jackson, Alan (Kenneth) of Tecumseh, Gary (Jennifer) of Hamburg, Joel (Janet) of Bowling Green,OH,and Mary (Dean) Burg of Pinckney; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; John was preceded in death by one son John Claude in 1988.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at the Pinckney Congregational Church with Pastor Lynn Martin officiating. Gregory S. Yost, 51 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Wednesday morning, August 9, 2006 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

He was born April 26, 1955 in Sistersville, West Virginia; the son of Keith and Eunice (Ritchie) Yost. Gregory married Lynn Lybrink on October 15, 1983 in Howell, Michigan and she survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Jesse and Casey; his mother and father; sister Sandy Groom; brother, Michael; Greg was preceded in death by his brother, Ray.

Gregory was General Manager of Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan.

Funeral service will be held 10 AM Saturday, August 12, 2006 at the Chilson Hills Church 4440 Brighton Rd. Brighton, Michigan, cremation will follow service. Shirley A. Brockway, 72 years, of Pinckney, Michigan died Friday morning, August 4, 2006 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Shirley was born April 10, 1934 in Dearborn, Michigan; the daughter of Dwight and Florence (Neumann) Wegener. She married Glenn Brockway on January 13, 1968 in Brighton, Michigan and he preceded in death September 19, 1997.

Shirley is survived by Sharon Murnighan Sutton of Oregon, Richard and Terri Brockway of Howell Michigan, Caron Voght of Illinois, Debra Kessler of Florida, Donna Argue of Indiana and Gale Brockway of Fowlerville, Michigan; fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce Carney, Nancy Rose and Linda Logan.

She is survived by her mother and father; three sisters, Evelyn, Robin and Kimberly; two brothers, David (Christina), and James; three nieces, Meadow, Hailey and Carly; her grandparents, Dorothea Roberts, Vincent and Betty Riggs, Jack and Valerie Green.

Survivors include three daughters, Beverly (Stephen) Coulter of Livonia, Jeanette (Dave) Westermann of Pinckney and Alice (Scott) Thornburg of Chicago; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one sister, Jane Higgins of Trenton.

Survivors include two daughters, Claudia and Harry Lybrink of Howell, Michigan and Deborah and Bruce Vanderhaagen of Pinckney, Michigan; her son, Kenneth and Joni Garr of Rolla, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jason Garr, Ida Garr and Daneen Leidy; three great grandchildren, Austin, Summer and Madelyn.

Dr. Scovell Meyers Hopkins M.D.

Dr. Scovell Meyers Hopkins, M.D., was born July 6, 1921, died on June 8, 2006 in Howell, Michigan. He was the son of Scovell B. and Norma M. (Meyers) Hopkins of Ashland Kentucky. Dr. Hopkins graduated from Ashland High School in 1939. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1945. An Army Medical Corps veteran of WWII, he completed residency in thoracic surgery in 1948. Dr. Hopkins was board certified in General and Thoracic Surgery. In 1955 he and his family moved to Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan where he practiced thoracic surgery for 21 years. In 1976 he joined the VA in Boise,ID as a general and thoracic surgeon. From 1979 through 1988 Dr. Hopkins served as Chief of Staff at VA Hospitals in Topeka, KS, Cincinnati, OH and Erie, PA. While in Cincinnati he was Assistant Dean and Professor of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical School. Dr. Hopkins and his wife Rita moved to Independence Village of Brighton Valley in July 2004. During his years of medical practice in the Detroit area, Dr. Hopkins was Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at St. John Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital. Dr. Hopkins is survived by his wife Rita Marie (McCartney) Hopkins; four children, Maureen Emerson, Suzanne Hopkins, Dr. Steven Hopkins and Dennis Hopkins; six grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 beginning at 11 AM at Shelters Funeral Home of Pinckney, Michigan followed by a funeral service at 1 PM. She was born April 9, 1925 in River Rouge, Michigan; the daughter of Dewey and Bertha (Roberts) Wild. Christine married L. Ray Bennett on April 17, 1945 in River Rouge, Michigan and he survives.

She is also survived by two sons, William (Sandra) Bennett of Canton Twp., Michigan and Randy (Sue) Bennett of White Lake, Michigan; daughter-in-law, Susan Bennett of Ann Arbor, Michigan; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; her brother, George Wild of Midland, Michigan; she was preceded in death by one son, Lawrence.

Becky Mida passed away Saturday, May 27, 2006 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

She was born Rebecca Henry, January 16, 1950 the daughter of Harold and Genevieve Henry. Becky married Albert Mida in November 1983, he preceded her in death in 2001.

Becky was employed for 28 years at the University of Michigan Surgery Charge Entry Department. She was a member of the Pinckney Community Congregational Church, The Rebekah Lodge #250 of Belleville and the Pinckney Chapter #145 O.E.S.

Survivors include her parents, one brother, Daniel (Kim), three step sons, Keith (Ruth), Walter (Sally) and James Mida along with many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 2 PM Friday, June 2, 2006 at the Pinckney Congregational Church, 125 E. Unadilla St. Pinckney, Michigan.

Robert Bert VanBlaircum, 73 years, of Gregory, Michigan died Monday, May 1, 2006 in Davenport, Florida.

Bob was born February 27, 1933 in Pinckney, Michigan; the son of Bruce and Caroline(Wallace) VanBlaircum. Bob was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Kay Kelly and Betty Abbott.

He is survived by his two sons, Kelly VanBlaircum and Patrick VanBlaircum both of Gregory, Michigan; two grandchildren; his brother Bruce of Pinckney and two sisters, Anna Hoover of Chelsea, Michigan and Betty Crockett of Gregory, Michigan.

Bob retired from Rockwell International Spring Plant in Chelsea, Michigan. He served in the United States Army and was a member of both St. Marys Catholic Church of Pinckney, Michigan and St. Ann Catholic Church of Haines City, Florida. Bob was also a member of the Mens Club at St. Marys and the U.A.W.

Florence was born on February 13, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan; the daughter of Anthony and Sophia (Telesz) Supranowicz. She married Victor A. Hruszczyk on March 7, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan and he preceded in death November 1, 1976.

She is survived by one son, Victor (Judy) Hruszczyk of Lutz, Florida; two daughters, Carolyn (Lawrence) Bendena and Shirley (Ronald) Watkins both of Pinckney; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Scharmen of Troy and Jean King of Traverse City.

Florence was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Pinckney, Michigan.

Leona Martha Gill, 77 years, of Stockbridge, Michigan and former resident of Redford Township, died courageously, Thursday morning, February 9, 2006 after suffering a long illness.

She was born on September 14, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan; the daughter of Richard and Martha (Miller) Gallinat. Leona married Arthur Gill on August 26, 1950 at the Outer Drive Lutheran Church in Detroit, Michigan and he survives.

Leona is also survived by three children, Bonnie Brooks, Garry (Jeanne) Gill and Audrey (Collin) Smith; seven grandchildren, Ryan and Aleea Brooks, Jessica and James Brennan, Weston Gill, Kayla and Sierra Smith.

Leona's life was surrounded by music. She played the piano, sang descant in the GM choir, participated in many church choirs (Outer Drive Faith Lutheran, Detroit; Augsburg Evangelical Lutheran, Redford Township; and Shalom Lutheran Church, Pinckney) and was president of the Redford Township Music Society. She even received a college credit for participating in a University of Michigan opera production of Hansel and Gretel with her daughter Bonnie, music student, sing as a chorus Gingerbread Man.
Later in life she joined Clowns Celebrating Christ, becoming part of a troupe of volunteers who mimed Bible stories during worship services and visited children's hospitals and retirement homes. Her clown nose was placed in her hand for her final viewing.
Leona's greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, family and her many close friends. She fed, loved, and nurtured everyone with German food, the love of God, and generous gifts of her time. She made the world a better place because she was in it.

Funeral service is Sunday, February 12 at 2PM at Shalom Lutheran Church, 1740 E. M-36, Pinckney, Michigan. Viewing will be at Shelters Funeral Home, 250 N Mill St. Pinckney, Michigan on Saturday, February 11 from 1-6PM

Jack was born November 17, 1936 in Ann Arbor, Michigan; the son of Fred and Beulah (Martin) Haynes. He married Lona Rachel Jayne on March 24, 1955 in Auburn, Indiana and she survives.

Jack is also survived by three daughters, Marilyn (Richard) Glowacki of Stockbridge, Joanne (Barry) Maus of Stockbridge and Susan (Norman) Oleski of Pinckney; one son, Jack A. (Pam) of Pinckney; ten grandchildren, Tom, Emily, Jessica, Heather, Nolan, Kendal, Becca, Megan, Jack M. and Justin; three brothers, Jay, Joel and Jeffrey; three sisters, Margaret McKitrick, Patricia Clark and Pamela Holloway; Jack was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James and Jerry.

Jack worked for the E.S George Reserve in Pinckney, Michigan and was a member of the Lakeland Trails Baptist Church, he also served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Ann Arbor Moose Lodge.

Clarence was born September 29, 1922 in Unadilla Township, Michigan; the son of Roy and A. Meda (Kestler) Shelhart. Clarence married Betty Imus on February 19, 1938 and she preceded in death on November 21, 1981.

Survivors include two sons, Duane (Yvonne) of Pinckney, Charles of Lansing; ten grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; his sister, Violet Jones of Gregory.

Funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday, January 6, 2006 at the Shelters Funeral Home in Pinckney, Michigan with Pastor Heidi DeMott Shanes officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinckney Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are asked to the American Lung Association. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 1-8 PM.
